The 2011 Green Mission prize

This year, a special 4-member expert jury composed of same members as the year before and presided over by Friderik Knez, selected among 11 registered products the product UDOBJE E 92, manufactured by the Slovenian company M Sora from Žiri:

"The innovative wooden window has optimised properties, in the class of passive windows. It achieves its properties exclusively with smart wooden construction. Additionally, it is also a product and a manufacturer, which has made a step further in the desire to gain as much knowledge as possible about the product. The concluded analyses of the impact of the product on the environment in its entire lifecycle offer an objective evaluation of the product. At least in Slovenia, this is a new thought process in terms of products and the first step towards the imminent mandatory practice

The product itself is made from wood, a renewable material, and manufactured with knowledge, a synergy of two key Slovenian resources. Success in the wider European scale will undoubtedly show that Slovenia has the knowledge and the capacity to make a European hit. The prize is definitely awarded to the right company.

Aleš Dolenc, Director of M Sora, accepted the prize on behalf of the company:

»We are pleased that the expert jury noticed our endeavours in the development of energy efficient and ecologically friendly windows. This prize is based on long-term planning, systematic and self-sacrificing work of development experts at M Sora, in the recent years organized as a Development research group. The largest share of work was contributed by Jože Cigale as the father of the patent, which the prize-winning product incorporates, and by Barbara Šubic. We would like to sincerely thank them for their endeavours.

Where we come from, we respect nature; we live with it and off it. With the use of new knowledge, innovative solutions and with the aid of contemporary technology we wish to emphasise and highlight the excellent properties, which nature created in a wonderful product – wood. In the last decade, M Sora developed from a less known window manufacturer into a development focused, innovative and respected company in the field of energy efficient and environmentally friendly windows. We accept the prize as a great recognition of our work and, even more so, as an encouragement for the future.«

The Green Mission prizes by categories 2011

For the first time this year, prizes are also presented in individual categories.

The Green Mission for products involving water treatment was awarded to the company EKORIM Mirko Ribič, s.p. for the SMALL BIOLOGICAL WASTE WATER TREATMENT DEVICE, manufactured by the German DELPHIN WATER SYSTEMS.

With the use of this system rainwater and wastewater following treatment may be recycled and re-used for almost any purpose. Only consumption or cooking of such water is lacking. Perhaps this is an opportunity for further development and a technological breakthrough,” stated the jury’s report.

The jury awarded the Green Mission prize in the group of other products to the company LUMAR IG d.o.o from Maribor for the passive house PRIMUS:

The company LUMAR IG, with its strategy of energy efficient buildings and conscientious selection of most environmentally friendly materials, has been shaping the image of the segment of sustainable construction in Slovenia in recent years. The prize-winning concept includes numerous environmentally-friendly components: it is a timber product, it includes elements with known, low impact factors, and its manufacture is environmentally optimized.
